5-year-old twins and 1-year-old brother killed in crash

OXON HILL, Md. (ABC7) — Investigators say a man driving a pickup truck involved in a tragic three-car crash that left three children dead is suspected of DUI. The crash occurred around 9:40 p.m. Sunday in Oxon Hill.
Police believe the car, a sedan carrying a man, a woman and the three children, was stopped on Indian Head Highway at the Kerby Hill light when a pickup being driven southbound by a 27-year-old man hit it, seemingly making no attempt to stop. The truck came to rest on top of the rear-passenger compartment of the sedan.
The impact killed the children, 5-year-old twin siblings Alexander Mejia and Rosalie Mejia and their 1-year-old Isaac Mejia, all from Falls Church.
Both adults in the sedan sustained serious injuries and were taken to an area hospital. One other driver who was operating a car in front of the one that was directly hit was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the pickup [reported to be a Charles County man] was uninjured, sources tell WJLA Maryland Bureau Chief Brad Bell. They say he seemed visibly intoxicated and told police he was coming from the Redskins game.
He is not being identified yet because charges have not yet been filed. Charges are pending the outcomes of the investigation, toxicology testing, and reconstruction analysis and will be determined in consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, police say. He has been released.
“I am heartbroken over the loss of these three young innocent lives," Chief Hank Stawinski said. " The actions of a suspected drunk driver has ended in a lifetime of pain for this family."

According to the Maryland Highway Administration, 60 people have been killed on Indian Head Highway over the last 11 years.
